[from our dunedin correspondent.] Dunedin, August 21. The official declaration of the Caver sham election gives Mr Larnach one more vote in Green Island, reducing Mr Stout’s majority to eleven. Mr Larnach attributes his defeat to coming so late into the held. Mr Stout promised to go to Wellington as soon as possible, and in returning thanks said, “ I do not look upon this election as a personal victory, but a noble assertion by the people that they will not lightly vote away their privileges, I trust that those who have all along asserted that the people desire the abolition of provincialism will see from this election that the press is not infallible, either in its opinions or facts. ” (Press Telegraph Agency.') * Auckland, August 20. The following resolution was adopted at a meeting of ratepayers in the district of Tuapan, near Mercer :- “ That this meeting strongly approves of the A.bcii“ tion of the Piovinocs and Local Government Bills, as now before the House, and advo ■ cates their being carried this session.” The resolution was carried by a majority of 31. Captain Malcolm, of the Maori, which arrived at the Bluff last right from the West Coaut ports via Preservation fffiet, telegraphs that the men who started to walk overland from Preservation Inlet over a month ago, had been picked up by the sealers when eighteen days out, aiffi taken back to Preservation ell well.
