ROAD BOARDS.

HEATHCOTB. The Board met on Thursday, April 22nd, at 6.30 p.m. Present —Messrs Fisher (chairman), Dunlop, Mardon, and Attwood. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Letter from the clerk, asking to be excused from attending that evening on account of having met with an accident. From Mr Rosser, asking for progress payment on account of Ferry road drain. To be informed that the Board think that he is not making sufficient progress in the work to finish it within contract time, and therefore decline to advance any more money on account. From Mr Sycamore, asking for payment of contract ; also for amount for improvement to gravel pit as per agreement. To be informed the Board agree to the first part, and in reference to the second the Board decline to pay until the work is completed to the satisfaction of all parties concerned. It was agreed to pass £375 to Mr Leatham on account of contract for improvements to Sumner road, as per the Government engineer's certificate. From the Provincial Engineer re the same. It was decided that the Board could not spare their overseer for the purpose of overlooking said contract, and hoped the Government would see their way to have the specifications carried out in full according to contract. A deputation, consisting of Messrs March, Offwood, Ollivier, Yeoman, and Ashton, waited on the Board on behalf of themselves and other ratepayers in reference to making provision for the drainage of the Ferry road, stating that the inhabitants were willing to submit to be specially rated for the purpose. The deputation were informed by the Board that the subject would be carefully considered and action taken in the matter as soon as possible, when the deputation withdrew. After mature consideration on the kind of pipes required for the lower end of the Ferry road drain, Messrs Dunlop and Attwood were deputed to inspect and purchase such pipes as they may deem necessary for the purpose, and to have them put in at once. Resolved, that a rate of one shilling in the £ should be struck this 22nd of April on all the rateable property in the district. Accounts to the amount of £558 0s 9d were passed for paymeat, and the Board adjourned.
