MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, December 10. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.] LARCENY. J. H. Ford was arrested on the charge of stealing a watch the property of Ismad Looke. Detective Benjamin stated that he arrested the prisoner at 8 o'clock that morning, on the above charge. All he said at the time of his arrest was, that he did not steal the watch. About five minutes afterwards he said he had bought it on the morning of the 9th from a drunken man he had met in the street near the Warwick Hotel, for 255. He said he knew the man, and had met him the previous day and spoken to him, The watch was reported to him as stolen. Got it from McCarthy, cabman, living in St Asaph street. The watch had since been identified by Looke, the owner. Chief detective Feast said that that was all the evidence he had at present, as the prisoner had only been arrested that morning. He would ask for a remand. Remanded until Saturday, December 11th, at twelve o'clock. LUNACY FROM DRTNKGeorge "Wilkin, who had been remanded for a week for medical treatment, was again brought up. Evidence having been given tha'j the accused was recovered, he was discharged.
