AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Tauisday afternoon at Tatter sail's, present Messrs R. Wilkin, Mcßeth, Alport. H. Matson, Norman, Henderson, Murray- Aynsley, and J. T. Ford (hon sec). Mr R. Wilkin was voted to the chair. After the mitmtes of the previous committee meeting had been road and confirmed, the secretary stated that that meeting had been hurriedly called for the purpose of passing the accounts, and as there were a great number, it would take some time to go through them. The Chairman said before the accounts were submitted he would like to ask if any reply had been received from the Lyttclton Times, relative to their publishing tbe prize list of slncp at the last exhibition of the association, and coatr.vy to the arrangement entered into at the time. It was desirable that this mutter should b 3 gone into at once, as from tho resolution passed by the com mittee at the meeting held on the grounds, no information could t2 given to the reporters of the Times, and no use made of that paper. ; The secretary replied that he had received i letter from the proprietors o: the Times but as so little nofce had been given of that meeting, he tad not intended to bring it forward, but he hoped ihey would hold a meeting at an early date when the letter could be discussed. The Chairman said that as it was desira vble that this-malter should be fully gon : nto, and as that meeting was rathei' a livdi' -me, it would perhaps be better that more o he members should be present when the dis :ussion came on. A representative of the Lyttclton Timet uewspaper here entered the room, and wa;
told by the chairman (after taking the opinion of the meeting) that in the terms of the resolution passed, no representative from that paper could be admitted to the meeting of the association, until the letter received from the proprietor had been discussed and settled. On the accounts from the papers for printing being submitted, Mr Matson said he regretted to see the PRESS account so small, for if any paper did its work well it was the Press. , After the majority of the accounts had been passed for payment, it was resolved that the next meeting of the committee be called for Tuesday, 22nd December, at 2 15 p.m., and to be advertised only in the Press newspaper. The chairman said that it would perhaps be as well to send special notices to each member of the committee, as the matter between the Times and the Association, to be considered at the next meeting, was most important. Mr Matson suggested that fifty or sixty slips of the advertisement should be printed off, and one sent to each member of the committee. . It was decided that this course should be adopted, and the meeting then adjourned until Tuesday, 22nd instant.
