ROAD BOARDS.

AVON. The Board met on November 4th, present, Messis Peacock, Dickenson, and Duncan, Mr Peacock was voted to the chair. The clerk reported the receipt of £22 11s 5d since last meeting—from general rate, £2O 11s; and Waimakariri, £2 0s scl. The balance to the Board’s credit is £243 17s 4d In reference to the width of the Office road the clerk was directed to see Mr Johnstone. Mr Luke saw the Board on the subject of compensation for alleged damage done by a drain having been cut through his land. He was requested to commit to writing his claim, and communicate with the chairman. Messrs Rountree and M‘Fadden saw t ie Board in reference to their contract requesting that, as the surveyor would not pass the work, it might bo tested as to the quantity of earth having been put on, because they considered the work was completed. It was agreed that they meet the surveyor on Friday morning, for the purpose of testing the ground. A letter was read from Mr Grierson, in reference to the road from the Stanraore road to the river, saying that before the contributions were paid towards its formation, he wished that the Board would inspect it, as it was in a worse state than before it was touched. The clerk was directed to reply that as the road was finished the Board would be obliged by a cheque for the contributions promised, A letter from Mr Walkden in reference to Sycamore's shingle contract. It was decided that Mr Sycamore be asked to attend the Board at its next meeting in reference to his claim. A letter was read from the Riccarton Road Board, enclosing accounts for keeping the boundary roads in repair. The accounts were ordered to be paid, and the Board to be informed that the existing arrangement with regard to keeping the roads in repair would cease from date. The surveyor’s report was read and considere I. The chairman was asked to see Mr Wright in relation to the North road contract. The surveyor was directed to get a portion of the Canal Reserve drain cleaned ; to call for tenders for two brick culverts ; to clay the footpath, and to prepare estimates of the cost of forming and shingling Hewitt’s road. With regard to the obstruction placed in the main drain, the clerk was dirextod to take immediate action in the matter. Accounts amounting to £295 8s Gd were passed and ordered to be paid.
