MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHRISTCHUU OH. Thursday, Oct 15. (Before 0. 0. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Walter Baker, for being drunk while in charge of a horse, was fined 10s. Thomas Johnson, for drunkenness, was also fined 10s. LARCENY AS A BAILEE. Alexander Fraser, who had been arrested at Rangiora for appropriating to his own use a horse belonging to Charles Spalding, of Messapotamia Station, was remanded for a week for the production of evidence. BREACH OF CITY BYE-LAWS. For permitting horses to wander in the streets the following fines were inflicted : George Fuller, 5s ; Daniel Fuller, 5s ; ffm Ormandy, 5s ; Wm Harris, ss; Thos Chambers (two horses), ss; John Fraser, ss; Thomas Blythe, 5s ; James Rosser, 5s ; Daniel Burns, 5s ; and F. T. Hoskins, ss. For driving a cow through the streets during prohibited hours, Matthew Longdon was fined 10s. For being absent from his horse and trap, James Harley was fined 10s. Peter Pavey summoned for causing an unnecessary obstruction with his fish-cart in Colombo street, was fined 10s. Wm. Prudhoe, for causing an obstruction in Colombo street, by allowing a step ladder to remain on the footpath, was fined 10s.

Alexr. Dallas, for causing an unnecessaryobstruction in Oxford terrace, by allowing a crate to remain thereon, was fined 10s. Wm. Gray, for obstructing a thoroughfare with building materials, was fined 10s. Wm. Kerson, summoned for working a horse with a galled neck, was fined 10s. Wm McCallum, summoned for being the owner of a ferocious dog, and permitting the same to be at large unmuzzled, was fined 10s and expense of witness. H. J. Inwood was summoned for working a horse with a fester on its wither, and a cut on the shoulder.

After hearing the evidence, His Worship fined defendant 10s. FIGHTING. Benjamin Fielder and John Joyce were summoned for fighting at the ' rear of the Borough Hotel. The case out of which this fight arose was before the Court some few days ago, and as no breach of the peace had been committed by the defendants since that time, His Worship told the parties not to settle their differences in the same way again, and dismissed the case. USING ABUSIVE LANGUAGE. Mary Dixon was summoned for using abusive and insulting language to Mrs Freeman.

Mr O’Neil appeared for the complainant. This complaint arose out of a misunderstanding existing for some time past between these parties, who are neighbours living at Woolston.

After hearing the evidence his Worship said it was a very great pity such disagreements should occur between neighbours. Defendant had no doubt used insulting language, and he would only inflict a fine of 10s on this occasion, but if similar language were indulged in by defendant again he would certainly bind her over to keep the peace. LYTTELTON. Wednesday, October 14. [Before W, Donald, Esq, R.M.] DRUNK AND INCAPABLE. Richard King was charged with this offence. Constable Bmson proved the arrest, and accused was fined 10s. DRUNKENNESS. William Henry Hudson, arrested by Constable Wallace, was charged with the above offence. The constable stated that at halfpast one o’clock yesterday morning he arrested the prisoner who was under the influence of drink and knocking at a publichouse door. Fined 10s. DESERTION Charles Heath, Edward King, and William Argent, were charged upon remand with deserting from the ship Merope. Mr Nalder appeared for Captain Williams, and stated that he (the captain) was willing to take the men on board again if they would turn to. The men having expressed their wish to go aboard again, the Bench made an order accordingly, cautioning them as to their future conduct. RANGIORA. Wednesday, October 14. (Before A. H. Cunningham, Esq., and J. 0. Boys, Esq.) RAILWAY ACT. Daniel Gow arrested by Detective Kirby was charged with having placed an obstruction on the Oxford railway, namely, laid a ploughshare on the rails. Accused was remanded till Tuesday and admitted to bail in two sureties of £SO each. LARCENY AS A BAILEE. Alexander Horrell, arrested by Constable O’Shanessey, was charged with larceny as a bailee of ahorse value £9, the property of C. Spalding, Mount Somers, and remanded to the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court. AKAROA. Friday, October 9. (Before Justin Aylmer, Esq, R.M.) CIVIL CASE. Superintendent v Webb. Claim £1 14s, for school building rates. His Worship gave judgment for defendant, as he considered that there was a variance between the Gazette description of boundaries of educational district and the map produced. And as the map must be taken as authentic, it was clearly proved that the defendant was not within the boundaries therein described. Saturday, October 10. (Before Justin Aylmer, Esq, R.M.) DRUNK. Duncan Bain and Charles Johnson was brought before the Court for having been drunk and disorderly. They were each fined 10s, or forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. The fines were paid.
