GOOD TEMPLAR HALL COMPANY (LIMITED).

An extraordinary general meeting of the shareholders in the Good Templar Hall Company (Limited) was held last evening in the Temperance Hall, Gloucester-street, a large proportion of the shareholders being present. Mr Dale took the chair, and, having read the advertisement calling the meeting, and that portion of the articles of the company which gave the shareholders power to borrow, stated that over 800 shares had been taken up, of which 10s per share was now being called in. The amount thus realised would enable the directors to pay for the land purchased by them for £360, which, for the information of the shareholders present he would state consisted of 60ft frontage to Worcester street, with a depth of 99ft, part of that piece of land known as Chudley’s corner, noon which it was intended to erect a hall 35ft wide by a depth of nearly the whole of the land The plans of the proposed hall were on the table for the inspection of the shareholders, and he (the chairman) could see a very good income indeed staring the company in the face, inasmuch as them were already five Good Templar lodges in Christchurch, and most of them would rent the lodge room, leaving the main hall of the building open for public engagements. It was for the purpose, therefore, of commencing operations immediately that the directors wished the shareholders present to authorise them to borrow the sum of one thousand pounds. A good many of those present availed themselves of the opportunity of inspecting the plans, and expressed themselves highly satisfied with them.

Mr Mills proposed, and Mr Hitchings seconded, the following resolution—“ That the shareholders authorize the directors to borrow a sum of money not exceeding £IOOO, towards the building of a Good Templar Hall”

Mr Andrews, M.P C., addressee the meeting upon the terms of the resolution ; and

Messrs Buxton, McConnell, and Caygill having spoken, the resolution was put and carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the proceedings.

The plans of the proposed building show a large hall 60 feet by 35 feet, reading and committee rooms, and a large lodge room to be used exclusively for Good Templar purposes. The stage accommodation at the rear of the main hall is both extensive and complete.
