' No movement of any consequence has taken place in the grain market, other than a slight stiffening in the price of oats. Horse feed is getting very scarce, and 5s is now asked for good oats. Wheat is rather easier, owing probably to the decline in Australia, and the depressed state of the English market. Quotations remain at Is 9d, but it would be difficult to quit a large parcel at this price, and it is only the paucity of supplies which sustains values at present rates. Flour remains at £ll 10s, for bakers’ parcels, but lower rates would bo willingly accepted to clear a large line. Bran is still quoted at £6 at the mills. Butter is now coming forward, and Is has been accepted for small lots; this price, however, will rapidly give way. Cheese meets a very excellent market at 7d. Hams and bacon likewise arc firm at 9Jd to lOd. "We have no improvement to record on the previous week’s transactions in the import market, business generally being dull. The wet weather experienced during the early part of the week has not at aH’improved.'the state;of the markets. There has been very little done in Henessy’s pale brandy ; the price now quoted is 10s I.B.; case dull at 30s 6d; other good brands bulk brandy realise 8s to 8s 3d. Eum moves off in small parcels at full rates. We hear of a parcel of old Scotch whisky (Islay) changing hands at Os 9d. Dunville’s case whisky is held for 18s 6d. Swaine Boord’s case old tom/iSs 9d ; bulk, 5s ; geneva commands attention at full rates. Twist tobacco meets with ready sale at Is 8d to is B.*d according to brands. Kerosene—We hear of sales effected at 3s 2d D.P. English hops—A few pockets have been placed at is 8d to Is 8,)d; holders arc iirm in their quotations, believing that the new season’s growth will be very high in price. Cement—We have to report a very good demand for best brands, 23s to 23s 6d is the price obtained for large parcels of Knight, Bevan and Sturge’s manufacture.
