NEW NAVAL GUNS

BRITAIN LEADS OTHER POWERS

DETAILS OF LATEST WEAPONS. LONDON, Jan. 29. The Daily News says that the new naval guns, of which the Rodney and Nelson are mounting nine apiece, are believed to outclass tlie world's naval ordinance in range, accuracy and destructive power. A shell weighing 2.130 lbs. leaves the muzzle at a velocity of thirty miles per minute and would pierce a block of wrought iron five feet thick.

Each gun weighs 10-? tons and the bore is 60 feet long ever which are wound more than one hundred miles of steel wire. Each charge takes 589 lbs of cordite and, desnite the great weights, can he loaded and fired in thirty seconds. Thus the Rodnev can discharge approximately eighteen tons of shells a minute at a range of 2-5 miles. —Sun.
