MAORIS IN CANADA.
VANCOUVER BEATEN BY 33 POINTS TO 9 TOURISTS. SUPERIOR, IN ALL DEPARTMENTS CROWD IMPRESSED WITH RUN- . IN Cr and PASSING YAN COLTER . Jan. 29. Making its first appearance-in Canada, the MiJAri Rugby team gave the most finished display of the English handling code, scoring 33 points to 9 against Vancouver. The tourists were vastly superior in all departments, with ‘ the possible exception of tackling. The Maoris were slow in starting, being held down to 14 to 3 at half time, but in the second spell the_visiters ran right over their opponents, scoring tlwee tries in five minutes. The pace was very fast, abounding in kicking and runs by the threequarters Robinson was the star New Zealander. He was almost unbeatable whenever he got any kind of a chance He scored three tries. Pliillips and Falwasser were well marked by the Vancouver back division, each ’scoring only a single try. The players on both sides tackled hard, but there was only one slightaccident, when Pinkham, the most effective unit in the home machine, was kicked on the chin and carried off •lie field.-
Altogether the Maoris impressed the crowd with their fast running and clean passing, showing wonderful ability in launching hard thrusts at more or less close range. Their forwards packed well and tackled hard. The ground was perfect for Rugby. Tries were obtained 'by Roldnson (3), Pelham. Phillips Shorthand, Falwasser and Rika. Potaka convert two and Mitten e one, the last-named also kicking a penalty goal. For Vancouver Crone kicked a- penalty goal and Boyd and Fanner scored tries, which were not converted.— A. and N.Z.C.A
