ITOEE NEW TUBES ESTABLISHED N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS CONCLUDED AUCKLAND, Jan. 28. The record-breaking New Zealand •wiinming championships of 1927 were brought to a memorable conclusion at the tepid baths to-night when three more records were lowered, aud another was equalled. Swimming in the 440 yards men s championship, D. P. Lindsay (Canterbury) lowered Baird’s record of smin 30 3-ssec Ry 6isec; W. Cameron of Wellington equalled his own record of 01 see in the 100 yards intermediate championship; while in an official attempt Afiss E. Hockley (Auckland) lowered the 100 metres backstroke by 14 2-ssec to Imin 2Ssec Leslie Olds, the Otago schoolboy, lowered G. Bridson’s junior 440 yards record by the great margin of 38sec to smin 47 3-ssec.

Following are the results : 440 yards men’s championship.—D. P. Lindsay (Canterbury) l.» G. RexTrott ((Wellington) 2, E. V. Cunnold (Auckland) 3. Also started: D. Ryland (Wanganui), A. Stokes (Canterbury), N. Batchelor (Wellington.) Lindsay led from the start and won Ivy thirty yards. Time, 5.24 2-5. 220 yards ladies’ cnampionhsip.— Miss K. Miller (Otago) 1, Miss P. Page (Auckland) 2, *Aliss J. Bell (Auckland) 3. Miss Miller led through out to win by ten yards Time, 6min 11 2-sseo.

100 yards intermediate boys’ championship.—W. Cameron (Wellington) L, L. G. Bridson (Auckland 2), R. Sellars (Auckland) 3. Also started: A. Rlaper (Auckland), G. Cleland (South Canterbury). Cameron showed the way on first lap, Bridson chasing him hard, and the former increased his load up to 80 yards, but then tired, and Bridson drew slightly' nearer to be three strokes away at the finish. Time, Olsec. 500 yards flying squadron relay.— Auckland (Bridson, Cunnold, Fairgray, Adamson, Enwright) 1: Wellington (Rex-Trott. Blakely, Molvor, Leask, Batchelor) 2. The first 200 yards was closely' contested, but Auckland’s last three men each gained considerable leads, Enwright finishing with an easy stroke five yards ahead of Bachelor. The time was 5.17 4Rssec.—P.A.
