AFTER THE DOGS
BOROUGH COLLECTOR’S TRww__.es. , EFFECT OF RECENT COURT CASE. ■ . Authority to enforce payment on cfog owners who refuse to register their animals was sought by the dog tax collector, Mr. A. M. Beer, in a letter to the Borough Council last evening. “Owing to the Magistrate’s decision on January 12 last 1 am now told by some owners of dogs to go to Hell, and if 1 do not get off their premises they will send me off in pieces,” wrote Mr. Beer. “I also wish to know if ! have the authority of the Borough Council to arrest dogs, also unregistered dogs as provided by the Act of 1908.” He lurtliei asked .whether clog owners living within the borough could register their" dogs in adjoining districts, and thereby more cheaply, and keep the dogs within the /borough ► ithout something -definite being done. “I fear 1 will be unable to carry on,” he concluded. The Mayor said that the authority to prosecute should be placed in the hands of the Town Clerk. Or. Coleman agreed that it was not right to allow the collector to prosecute, but he should be given authority to report to the Town Clerk, who in turn, could refer the matter to the solicitors. This course was agreed upon.
