. The members of the Railway Commission (Sir S. Fay and Sir Vincent Raven) arrived at Tinutru yesterday afternoon from Gnmnru and, after inspection of the Fairlie Hue, returned to Timaru and heaid considerable evidence submitted by the Chamber of Commerce. The Commission leaves for Cristehureh to-dav. —P.A.
The Gisborne entrants in the police examinations for the Dominion, have received the results of their papers. Senior-Sergeant J. Fitzpatrick was successful in passing in the following subjects- qualifying for the rank of Sub-inspector: Evidence, prescribed Statutes. Police Force Act and Regulations, and detective and psl : ce duties. Constable -Ciist. of Opotiki, a’so pissed in similar subjects, qualifying for the rank of sergeant. Passengers by the Gisborne Motor Service, Co. this morning include Mescmmes Mclntosh. Boyce. Mathias Fngerston, Kirkpatrick" and Eellawny Misses Mclntyre, Leemrng, Grant. Stewart. Scott and Kellaway: Messrs Kennedy. Andersc-n, "Williamson, -Johnson, Parata. Douglas. Knox, Ross. Hustler, Burns. Ti Puna, Cooper and Fagerston. Inward passengers included Mesdames Fox. Boyce, SommerviHc, Tamarau .and Pccock: Misses Ryan. Haskins. Werner and East: Messrs Little, Fox. Dooley. Fagerston, Cooper. Hunt. Mitchell, Spencer, Fawcett, Levy. Terry, White, Stewart. Shaw Bnigent, Bendon and Grieve.
