“SENTIMENT AND DECORUM”

MEXICO WITHDRAWS CONSULS

FROM BRITAIN

(Received Oct. 25, 5 p.m.)

MEXICO CITY Oct. 21

Tlio Foreign Affairs Department has ordered the closing of tlio Alexioau consulates in London, Liverpool and Glasgow, also all honorary consulates throughout Britain, indicating complete suppression of commercial relations. The United States embassy here took over the archives of tire British embassy last June, following the withdrawal of the, British agent (Mr. Cummings) in connection with the affair of Airs.- Evans, who, later, was assassinated. Although the British embassy has been closed for seme time, Britain has maintained a Consul-General here and consular officials at other points iiv Mexico. Foreign Minister Seanz states that the decision to recall the consuls does not imply a desire on the part of Mexico to show hostility to Britain, “hut obeys sentiment and decorum, we believing it unworthy of us to maintain consular representatives under a Government which docs not concede to Mexico tho honor of official relations.” According to Seanz, the British consuls in AI ex ico will continue to enjoy guarantees if they are not recalled.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
