MEAT EXPORT BILL

MR. LYSNAR A "XT/ HIS AMENDMENTS.

MATTER NOT YET CLOSED

Air AA 7 . D. Lysnnr, M.P~, wires to the Editor as under:—> Sir, — : ‘[ have just had an opportunity of reading your issues of tjie 20tlx and 21st regarding the Meat Export Bid. Your report of the 20th is misleading and contains inaccuracies. I disregard the report ot the 21st as apparently inspired on helia If of the- Government. The position is Very different from what you suppose. Your leading article was written under an erroneous

surmise. Until the Bill has passed its third reading the matter is not closed. This the Premier has been delaying since the 18th. Meantime I ask you and your readers to suspend judgment for, without a knowledge of tho inside history of the present position of the Government in this and other matters, how can anyone express an opinion. Apparently your anxiety was to protect the party only, hut the question is how far should the country he sacrificed for party? I fully realise the responsibility and would welcome helpful advice to assist in directing a right course in a most difficult and delicate question.”

[Our correspondent will note when he r-ets ids next mail that we dealt agam with the subject of h:s rejected amendments to the Meat Export Bill in Saturday’s issue. He is quite mistaken if he believes that the reports winch have appeared in the dimes and tho editorial criticism were intended to assist in “protecting” the Government or anv other partythe matter has been dealt with simpiy on its merits. As Mr. Lysnar says the incident is not yet closed, wo shall now await, further developments in the Parliamentary arena. —Ed. G.I.J
