PACIFIC CABLE BOARD AWPLICATI *N.

(Received Oct. 26, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 20. It is —"sd that the Pacific Cable Board, having agreed to tho principle cof duplication, will decide on Monday the type of cable to be employed. It is understood the experts are submitting two types for tlie Board s consideration. It is believed the Board is likely to favor a continuously leaded cable the new simplex type similar to that recently laid by the Western Union between New York and Azores, which is proving tliorcoughly satisfactory. The cable has a capacity of six hundred letters a minute. Despite the fact that it is a singe line cable it is regarded as : eminently suitable for the Board’s requirements. The other type is a ; heavy core, similar to the cable now used. This has.a capacity of 180 let- • tors a minute or 360 duplexed. The /•cost of the two cables is approximate- . ly tho same. .
