NEW ZEALAND PRISONERS
a j IN TURKISH HANDS. I i INQUIRIES ASKED FOR. ; By Telegraph—Special Correspondent WELLINGTON. July 23. A question was put by Mr' C. J. Parr (Eden) to the Alinister of Dofence (the Hon. Jas. Allen) in Parliament yesterday as to whether the Government had taken any steps to ascertain the names of New Zealand prisoners in the hands of the Turks at Constantinople ? It would be a great relief, lie said, to the parents of those soldiers designated, as “missing” if' they knew whether the men were pH- 1 I sowers or not. ; Air AJle/j .said that the government had taken eVefy step they could. They had telegraphed to the Army Council and he thought His Excellency the Governor had telegraphed to the Secretary of State. The latest information to hand was that, under the international law, a bureau had been set up at Constantinople under the administration of the United States. So far, the New Zealand Government had only received information of one prisoner in Constantinople. They had asked time and again for particulars and lie presumed they would get them in due course. ■
