A.TT.EAIPT TO DESTROY A SHIP. (Press Association Telegram.) AUCKLAND, July 15. A fire was discovered at 11.30 this morning in the forehold of the steamer Caldcrgrove, loaded with ease oil from Philadelphia. The hold was half full of benzoline, and had not been worked this morning, but half an hour before some of the crew had been working below. The hatch was left open for ventilation. A little smoke was scon coming out. Two leads of the ship s hose was taken down to the hold and the fire brigade called. The fire was found among a quantity of paper and tow between the outer row of cases and the ship's side. Evidently this had been placed there with intent to start a blaze. The fire was extinguished when the ends of nine cases had been charred. Had the blaze progressed much further the ship would probably have been blown up. BLAZE IN CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, July 15.
