—.. -y?.:-. • FURTHER GIFTS ACKNOWLEDGED. The Women’s Patriotic Committee will hold their sewing meeting to-day from 10.30 to 4.30. They wish to thank Mesdames Sidebottom and Cooper for kindly providing morning and afternoon tea last Friday. They also wish to acknowledge gratefully the following gifts : —Balaclava caps from Mesdames O’Halloran, R. Slier ratt, Porter, McLaurin. and Nurse Johnstone; books, Miss Muis; shirts, bed socks, socks. Miss Hutchinson; shirts, Miss Doreen; mufflers, ‘Mangnpapa School; boxes of clothes for Belgians, Airs Ben Taylor, Tokomaru Bay, and Airs R. J. Reynolds. For wounded soldiers: Per Miss Agnes Bushy, from Huirua and Waitahaia station, £'24; Anonymous, £2O; face cloths, Nurse Johnst-one: per Airs Bradley Smith, collection of gilts from Tolaga Bay—l 9 pyjama suits, 24 pairs bed socks, handkerchiefs, 41 bedjackets, 34 nightshirts 10 pillow cases, 1 scarf, 2 pairs bedroom slippers; Airs P. C. Bayly, 4 sheets, 6 towels, G handkerchiefs, old linen, and books; Airs H. Alorice. 2 pyjama suits. Two cases of clothing for the Belgi uns have been despatched by the s.s. Wairovo.
The Mayoress (Mrs W. G. Sherratt) has received the following cable in an swer to a letter sent by the Women’s Patriotic Committee two months ago to the Red Cross Societv in London, enquiring if money was needed for anaesthetics, or other help of any other kind was needed: “Re letter of 17th May received. No shortage of anaesthetics. Alonoy for general purposes much needed. Writing fully. —Red Cross.” The Mayoress has also received a letter from Lady Liverpool, expressing great appreciation of tho- gifts for the hospital ship, and asking the Patriotic Committee to be ready to.send further instalment of such gifts as soon as arrangements can be made for tiieir despatch to the front.
