ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH.
THE QUESTION OF SUPPLY. REV. 4V. GRANT'S RESIGNATION ACCEPTED. Upwards of 150 members and adherents of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church attended the meeting called last night to consider the question of supply for the pulpit- during the absence of the Rev. AY. Grant at the front. The Rev. Air Hall, of Ormond, presided. There was a strong feeling in favor of extending the Rev. Air Grant s leave of absence.
A letter received from Air Grant was so emphatic, however, that man., who favored extending his leave were reluctantly compelled to vote in favor of accepting hi-s resignation. Mr Grant stated that there was no possible chance of his returning for at least another six months, and he feared that the congregation would suffer unless his resignation was.accepted. The congregation eventually accepted Air Grant’s resignation, and a motion was carried expressing admiration for the great amount of work h® had done for the New Zealand Expeditionarv forces and his conduct- aii along in enlisting for active service. Under the rules of the church, th® congregation will now have to acquaint the Presbytery with their decision. and that body will have to send a minister to preach in the pmpit vacant after September 1. „ The voting was 6? to 19 in favor or the resignation being accepted, and this result was purely due to th® man! v letter received from Mr Grant, who advised the congregation, not to be sentimental, but to do the ngnt thing, and accept nis resignation.
