NORTH ISLAND ASSOCIATION—PROPOSED AMENDMENTS. [Press Association.] . WELLINGTON, Jan. 29. A movement is a-foot to revise the methods of the Northern (Bowling Association. In the first place it is suggested that, in- effect, competitors should pay an entrance fee sufficiently large to recoup- the cost of their entertainment by the clubs of the city in which the tournament is held, hut that is not the chief point. _ Bi> and little clubs combine in insisting that they should not be limited in their representation at the tournament. and the question is being freely argued as to the best means of getting over the difficulty. One suggestion is that .the North Island should he divided into centres, on the line of the Wellington centre. That each year there should be a centre tournament, with unlimited entries, and that the two- winning teams from each centre should compete at one of the centres for the championship of the. island. The subject is being discussed among bowlers in considerable detail, and has already come, before the Wellington Club, which will hold a special meeting. on Monday night to give final expression to its views. The directors have' (already had the question under consideration and will, it is understood, bring forward a. proposal that the two club rinks at the centre tournament which score the greatest number of wins shall represent the club at the Association’s tournament. It is not certain, however, that this will meet with general acceptance, as many members are in favor of the “open door” policy pursued by the New Zealand Association, and an interesting discussion is anticipated when the subject comes up.
