ROWING.
POVERTY BAY CLUB. Iwo more heats were rowed last ; evening for medals presented by Mr. H. 0. Peacocke, between M. McLeod («tr), A .McConnell (3), P. Fischback (2), E. Roche (bow) and C. Clark (str), S. Doig (3), J. Blakely (2), G. Sceats (bow). Clark got a,way first, but after (McLeod got going he soon overtook him, and after a good race M. McLeod-won by three-quar-ters, of a length. C. Winter (str), E. Thaxter (3), T. Parker (2), E. Whitfield (bow) met J. Webb (str), B. Karton (3), G. Hughes (2). F. E. Porter (bow). Both crews got well' awey together, and at Williams’ bend Winter had a lead of half a length.' Webb put on a spurt at the bridge and- drew up level, and both crews raced down the river together, but in the last few yards Winter put in a spurt, winning by about four feet after a very exciting finish. This evening B. Lowe meets' 0, Somervell, and the second round will be rowed on Monday evening.
