PAHIATUA, Jan. 28. Beautiful weather prevailed for the concluding day of the Pahiatua Racing Club’s annual meeting, the attendance of the public fell little short of yesterday’s number. The meeting was remarkable for several accidents which took place to-dav. In the Hnidle Race Snow Star, ridden by A. ■Watson., struck the fourth hurdle, fell on its head, and expired withm half an hour. Watson was shaken. Inti remained on the course all the aftmixooii. In the Newmarket Handicap, Cute, ridden by Telford, foil at the entrance to the straight,. bringing down Awha (Lowe), Oblivion (M dIbnns) and Sweet S.hot (Coleman). None of the horses or riders were injured. In the Makuri Hack Race, Hatch, on Miss Vera, had his left foot -crushed on the rails at the start. The stewards'hold an inquiry at the close of the meeting, and decided to recommend the Metropolitan Committee to disqualify W. H. Telford, rider of Cute, for three months lor cutting in and causing the accident. Nine bookmakers were licensed. The total isator investments were £5513. as against £6085 for the second day last year, making £11,747 for the meeting. The following were the results of-the racing:— Hade Hurdles,.. GO sovs, 1J miles.— Maidie 11.8 1, Wliatakura 10.8 2, Coy 11.3-3. Snow Star, also started. Won very easily by eight lengths, six lengths between second and third. Time, 2min 59 2-ssec. Stewards’ Handicap (open), 70 so vs, 6 furlongs,—Lady Menscliikolf 8.13 1, Toa Tuhi 7.7 2. Aboriginal 8.5 Jh Also started: kLmsel 8.0. Locliiela 7.7 and, Thera 0.9. Won by a neck. Time, lmin 16sec. Newmarket Hack Handicap, 60 sovs-, 5 furlongs.—Lucretius 7.13 1, Miss Vera 8.5 2, Swallow 7.8 3. Also started: Cute 10.0, Notorious 8.1, Awha 7.9., Burakin 7.9, Oblivion 8.6, Tainm 6.13, and iSweet Shot 6,7. Won by a length, the. third close up. Time, lmin 3 l-ssec. Mangahao Hack Welter, 55 sovs, 1 mile.—Midian 8.11 1, Anemone 8.9 2, Routine 8.8 3. Also started: Windage 0.11, Maidie 9.0, and Diplomatic 8.5.' A good race; won by half a length, the third'-a neck away. Time lmin 46 l-ssec. Racing Club Handicap (open). 130 sovs, 7 furlongs.—Roosevelt 8.7 1, Tangeroa 6.8 2, Moloch 9.1 3. Also started: Aberration .8.7, Seatondale 7.13, Loiret 7.10,. Nova 7.2, and Skye 7.3. "Won by D, head, three lengths dividing second* and third. Time, lmin 56 l-ssoc. ... ...... , Makauri Hack Handicap, 50 sovs, 6, furlongs.—Bonnie Doon 6.13 1, Cute 9.7 2, No Trumps 7.5 3. Also started: (Miss Vera 7.13 and Merrie Christmas 7.3. Won by two lengths, a •length .between second and third. Time, lmin. 17 2-ssec. Maiden Hack Scurry, 50 sovs, 5 furlongs, weight 9.o.—Humpty Dumpty 1, Waipuni 2, Tanaliara 3. Also started: Bereola, Remission. Bravery, Izol, Retinue, Quandary, Happy New Year, and To Utuatir. Won by ia short head, the third five lengths away. Time, lmin 4sec: r -Grandstand Welter (open), GO sovs,
1 mile.—Sir Possible 7.7- 1, HigMen 8.2 2, Rangihaetae 9.0 3. Also started: Mallet 8.5, Rosegrove 8.5, Chicane, Erl King 8.3, Skye 8,0, and Gaelic 7,11. Won comfortably by two lengths, three lengths between second and third. Time, imiii 44scc.
