POVERTY BAY CLUB
Two heats in the first round of the competition for the Peaeooke medals were rowed on tho Waimata course last evening. In the first the result was as follows: —J. W. Nicolas, P. H. McKenzie, L. 0. Nicolas, and L. Clark beat R. Jones, G. Whitfield, W. Robertson, and A. Briscoe. —The crews got away well together, and at the bend opposite Dr. Williams’ house Nicolas had a slight lead. He improved on this, and finally won by a length. ■ In the second lieat F. .Seymour, ,1. O’Neill, G. Douglas, and W. Lowe heat A. Kirk, H. J. Holschier, r l . Charters, rand W. Dayman.—Seymour went to the front at the start, and -led all the way, winning by a length and a-half. To-night C. Clark meets Af. McLeod, and C. Winter meets J. Webb.
