AN ITALIAN VISITOR.

ON AN OFFICIAL MISSION. (Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, Jan. 27. The Rev. Dr. Guiseppe Capra, Doctor in Natural and Scientific Science, who is on an official scientific mission from Italy, arrived by the Alelbourne Ijoat, and is just now in Invercargill. He has spent over four months in Tasmania, and proposes to tour New Zealand. His special object Is to study the agricultural resources of the colonics for immigration purposes. He himself is strongly opposed to contract immigration, such as was proposed in West Australia not long ago, and anything in the nature of the formation of Italian villages in tho States be is against. His idea is to take back to Italy information that may be of use in directing free settiers to lands, so that they may go abroad ami Ik- come citizens of their adopted countries. Dr. Capra speaks highly of the kindly treatment given V him in Australia, and of the friendlyv* cordiality with which Air. Fisher, the Federal Prime Afinister. listened to what he had to .say. and promised to help. The stranger was given ero*ry facility for carrying out his work n't Australia, including getting a pass over the railways. Dr. Capra is a student and enthusiastic lover of his people, and a most- interesting man.
