Mr. John Burns, of Peterborough, England, the Republic’s Marconi operator, for sticking to his post and transmitting a message despite the destruction of the deck-house where the ethergraph apparatus was located, was eulogised by Mr. Henry Boutell in the House of Representatives. The roof and sides of the deck-house •threatened to fall at any moment. The Baltic’s operator, Mr. Tattersall, stuck to his post for 56 hours, sending cheering messages to the Republic and communicating with the shore.
