A FARMER SHOT BY HIS STEPSON. [Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Dec. 14. A sensational occurrence happened at North Dunedin about 7 o’clock tonight. A young man named- John Steanhen Toomey went to his home in Cumberland Street, and, it is alleged, a dispute arose between him and his., stepfather, Daniel. McCurdy, a farmer by occupation. The latter, it is; said, threw a knife at Toomey, cutting him on the arm, and Toomey, leaving the room, procured a rifle and fired at McCurdy through the window, the bullet striking McCurdy in the thigh. Toomey was arrested on a charge of discharging firearms with intent to do grievous bodily harm. McCurdy walked to the hospital, where he was attended to. His wound is on'the thigh, but it is not thought possible that the bullet lodged in his leg.
