CHARGE OF CATTLE STEALING.

Samuel Beswick and "William Boult appeared at the Court to-day, charged with stealing forty-four head of cattle from Runanga station, Tarawera, valued at £298. A man named Brewer was also arrested at Taupe on a charge of being implicated. From the information available, it appears that Messrs Reid and Keene, owners of the station, left on a trip to England in February, and gave power of attorney to Mr. Beere, a solicitor of "Wellington, Beswick being left in charge of the station. Mr Beere paid a visit to the station, and as the result of information received lie communicated with the police. Detective Hill journeyed to Tarawera. passing on route- a mob of 4-1 cattle, driven by Boult, who was placed under arrest, together with Beswick. Other charges are pending. Accused were remanded, Boult being allowed, bail in two sureties of £250 each and self in £IOO.
