THE BALKAN CRISIS. AUSTRIA AND ITALY, United Press Association, Copyrighi ROME, Dec. 7. Signor Tittoni declares that-.... the position of the Trentino was not diseased during the negotiations which led to the. Triple Alliance, but it was indicated that Italy might seek compensation •on a settlement occurring in Macedonia .and Albania.
VIENNA, Dec. 7
The “Nioue Freie uresse” says that Italy .is entering into a new understanding with Russia at a moment when differences are pending between Russia, Austria, and herself, which is a blow to the Triple Alliance; Italy thus recedes from the mistake she mado at the Algeciras Conference.
LONDON, Dec, 7
The “Daily Express” Vienna correspondent has been officially assured that a formula, will be found for the Balkans Conference.
GERMANY’S ATTITUDE
PACIFIC SPEECH BY PRINCE BULOW.

BERLIN, Dec. 8
Prince Bulow, speaking in the Reichstag, said that Germany’s role in the Balkans was to follow, not lead, others, who had more special interests. Prince Billow incidentally eulogised the Young Turks’ movement and Britain’s attitude towards Turkey. He declared that Germany desired to see transition made easily until Turkey becomes strong economically and politically. He stated that M. Isvolsky had assured him that no arrangement, open or secret, existed be. tween Russia and Britain which could bo directed against the interests of Germany. Prince Bulow‘cordially reechoed Mr. Asquith’s Guildhall remarks about goodwill and Sir Edward Grey’s hope that a conference would prove a sedative, adding that those who might wish to disturb the peace were weak. Those strong enough to do so had no reason to wish to disturb it. Prince Bulow concluded by declaring that Germany would support all efforts directed towards the maintenance of peace.
THE LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE A FALL IN CONSOLS. (Received Dec. 8, 10.48 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 8. Consols arc quoted at 83J. The fall is due to King Edward’s indisposition iand the less satisfactory outlook at Vienna.
A DISQUIETING STATEMENT. AUSTRIA SAID TO BE DRIFTING INTO WAR. (Received Dec. 8, 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 8. The “Times” Vienna correspondent says that there is a growing feeling that Austria is drifting aimlessly but steadily . towards war, to which all except some military and ultramontane circles are opposed. He also states that Count Pallavicini quits Constantinople a few days hence. The German Levant-Hansa (steamship lines are declared to lie directly interested. Politically tlreir reconstruction is an earnest of Germany’s duty, from loyalty to her ally, to actively support Austria’s -shipments of Austrian goods to the Levant.
