CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. _5. Tlxe Public Schools Amateur Athletic Association’s sports were held to_ day in brilliantly fine weather, and were very largely attended. Several fine displays were given by the school children and cadets, and a very lengthy programme of sports was gone through. The 880 yards championship, for which there were 21 entries, was won by L. Blackmore (West Christchurch) an 2min 20-scc. The event was keenly contested and won on tho tape.'

A NEW ASSOCIATION FORMED

CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 5. Delegates from tho Southland, Otago and Wellington centres of the Now (Zealand Amateur Athletic Association attended a conference this morning to consider the action of the Council of' the N.Z.A.A.A. in respect to norai-
nations to the Council and the refusal to forward protests of dissatisfied centres to "the Australian union. Mr. A. A. Paape (Southland) presided. The resolution passed by the Wellington centre,, declaring that as no constitutional body controlling amateur athletics at present exists, in New Zealand, the conference, representing 37 clubs, proceed to establish an executive and adopt. such other measures as may be deemed expedient for the welfare of amateur athletics in the Dominion, was agreed to, on the motion of Messrs Davies and Coffey (Wellington). It was stated that though Auckland was not represented, it was in sympathy with the object of tho conference.
It was decided “that it having been unanimously confirmed by this conference of centres’ delegates that no Amateur Athletio Council exists, this conference by resolution appoints Messrs F. W. Larkin, W. Coffey, A. Davies, A. Marry at, Dawson, F. Ross, J. K. Pollock, and R. W. McYilley, and Dr. Newman, and the presidents of the various centres, as the executive to hold office until the next conference of delegates from centres and to act as a governing body, and that the delegates present pledge tlio cllibs affiliated to tho centres they represent to. acknowledge such executive as the sole governing body existing in New Zealand.” It was further decided that the lieiv-
■ appointed executive be requested to furnish the Australian A.A. Union with a report detailing tho present administration of amateur athletics in New Zealand, and that the Australian A.A. Union be requested to officially recognise the newly-appointed executive as the governing body of amateur athletics in New Zealand.
All the powers conferred on the N.Z.A.A.A. Council were by resolution given to tlie executive. Southland were awarded the championships for 1909, which will probably be held at Gore.
