GISBORNE CLUB
Flay at the green of the Gisborne Club on Saturday afternoon was rendered more interesting than usual by the presence of two visiting players, Mr. W. Mercer, the well-known -Mount Eden skip, who played off against the Whataupoko Chib for the highest aggregate in the last championship meeting held at Gisborne, and Mr. Butcher, a Wellington bowler. Mr. Mercer skipped a rink on Saturday afternoon, his opponent being Mr. F. A. -Martin. After one of the most exciting contests ever seen on the green, Air. Mercer won by a single point. The green was in capital order, a- very pleasant afternoon was spent. The result of the games played was as follows: Kyme, Collins, AV. Pettie, Alercer (skip), 25; beat Traill', Butcher, Winkle, F. A. Martin (skip), 22. Boulton, Hanson, Brown, Bright (skip), 25; beat Zachariah,‘Taltridge, Pavitt, Hookey (skip), 11. Brownlee, Veale, O’Meara, Ifwerson (skip), 22; beat Redstone, Exall, Wilson, Simson (skip), 16. Play to-day will be carried on all day at the- green, when a number of the Club’s tournament games will be got off.
TURAN GA N.UI CLUB. The perfect bowling weather which prevailed) on Saturday induced a large number of players to indulge in their favorite pastime. The Turanganui green was well patronised, a number of close ancp decidedly enjoyable games being played. To-day play will be carried on at the green all day. HANDICAP FOURS. Entries for Handicap Fours, for howls presented by various donors, closed on (Saturday afternoon with 32 entrants. The Fours have been arranged by the Alatcli Committee, the following being the draw and the allotted handicaps: Leydon, Bruce, AlcConnell, Sawyer (skill), 2-pts; v. Harries, ,R. Skeet, Bennett, J. J. Alartin (skip), scr. Nioholls, Farrell, Cussen, Nasmith, juur. (skip), 4pts; v. Lapidge, H. Alartin, NeiiC, Hallam (skip), ,3pts. Clayton, Edwards, Hird, Colley (skip), 6pts; v. Hay, AlcSkimming, Hepburn, AV. 0. Skeet (skip), 3pts. Somervell, Birrell, Douglas, AVilJiams (skip), opts; v. Creamer, Lewis, Alorse, .Ratcliffe (skip), 4pts. The first round is to be completed by Saturday, November 21st, or forfeited. It- is expected that a number of the games will be played today, as the Club are making the day a field day. Afternoon tea is to be served; and lady visitors are especially welcomed.
