United Press Association.' Copyright (Received November 3, 6.50 p.m.) FLEMINGTON, Nov. 3. An unprecedented crowd attended the Melbourne Cup. Though the weather last night was' threatening, it changed late this morning, and there was a strong sun, with a soutiiorlv breeze. Radies in all the glory of Cup attire attended in thousands. The seating accommodation proved insufficient, thousands having to Mand The Governor-General s party arrived with the most gorgeous equipage seen since the inception of Federation, evoking 'loud cheers. The downfall of the favorite in tne first two races did not affect the good •temper of the {Towd. . Immense crowds thronged the Footscray Huls, forming a mass of variegated colors. The Cup race created intense excitement, culminating when Lord Nolan and Tulkeroo ran up the straight together, with Delaware and the topweight, the veteran Mooltan, in pursuit. The following were the results of the racing:— Cup Hurdle Race, of 300fsovs, o miles. —Coraki, 9.0, 1; Elia Ora, 9.11, 2; Sea Gem, '10.7, 3. Six others started. Won by three lengths; a neck between second and third. Time omin 59isec. Railway Handicap, 6 furlongs.— Ciiliara 1, Vavasor 2, Decollette 3. Thirteen others started. Won by two and three-quarter lengths ;six lengths betvA\m second and third. Time, Imin lOTsee. Nursery Handicap, 5J- furlongs. — Amati 1, Captain White 2, Steppingstone 3. Five others started. Won by one and a-half lengths; a head between second and third. Time, lmin 9-lsec. Melbourne Cup, of oOOOsovs, second horse lOOOsovs, and third 500 'soys; 2 miles: Lord Nolan, G. 9 ... ... I Tulkero, 8.9 ... 2 Delaware, 6.9 ... 3 Bobby, Peru, Jack Smith, and Bawbee on the rails led the field from a good start. Jack Smith- on the inside immediately took the lead from Alawa, King’s Cross, and Aymer. Jack Smith, led at the distance by four lengths from Bobby, Parsee, Knox, Lady Wilde, Alawa, and Delaware. Coining out of the turn Jack Smith maintained a lead or six lengths from Bobby, who was three lengths from Parsee. At the abbatoirs Jack Smith’s lead was reduced to two lengths from Bobby. Jack Smith having made the pace a cracker then retired, Delaware forging ahead from Lady Wilde, Peru, and Trist, led into the straight from Mooltan on the rails, Lord Nolan, Alawa, and Tulkeroo coming very fast. Lord Nolan then made a run on the outside, with. Delaware, Tulkeroo. and Mooltan next. Lord Nolan and Tulkeroo raced neck-and-neck up the straight, the former winning by half-a-head: two and a-half lengths between Tulkeroo and Delaware. Mooltan was fourth, Alawa fifth, Jack Smith and Emir last. Time, 3mm 28 3~ssee.
(Received November 3, S p.m.) Lewis, Alawa’s rider, said that the favorite had a good easy run throughout, and he thought- it had a fine chance until heads were turned for home, when that was the end of him. Flynn, Lord Nolan’s rider, says that he went out with tlie intention of hanging on to Parsee, Mooltan, or Alawa. He got behind Median and stayed there for some time. When turning for home he began to ride, and rode Lord Nolan the whole way straight. He thought that Tulkeroo had beat him, but though tiring succeeded in lasting the joiirney. Yan Yean Stakes, 1 mile.—Mazarin 5.12, 1; Fiery Star, 7.12, 2; Five Crown, 7.0, 3. Twelve started. Won by one and a-quarter lengths: half-a-length between second and third. Time, Imin Usee. Encourage Stakes, 5 furlongs.— Lady San 1, Imprint 2, Tea Cosy 3. Bessemer, Ciasgow, Pliyladil, Marsovia, Clamour, Layfield, Nariel. Kambrook, Jean, Crawford, and Scourge also started. Won bv four lengths; one and a-half lengths between second and third. Time, lmin 2jsec.
Ukraine has been scratched for all engagements at the New Zealand Cup meeting. Tlio racehorse Cronstadt was badly hurt at Christchurch yesterday, through being galloped upon by Na ut if or in.
