At the meeting of tlie Borough Council last night a deputation was appointed' to wait on Hon. Jas. Car-„ roll in connection with the proposed acquisition by tlie Council of eight acres adjoining the AYaikanae beach, as a recreation reserve. A Press Association telegram from Christchurch -received 'last night stated that a. man named Alexander Greer was severely injured on Monday while assisting to discharge coal on the s.s. AVaipori at Lyttelton. A piece of coal fell out of a. basket and struck him on the head, fracturing his skull. His injuries were attended to under very adverse conditions owing to the lack of facilities in tlie Lyttelton casualty ward. Mr. G. Laureuson inspected, the ward, and was very indignant at what he saw. He set a strong telegram to the Hon. G. Fqwlds, Minister of Publ’ic Health, pointing out the deficiencies of the buildings, stating that, after years of agitation, tlie Hospital Board seemed determined to do nothing, and asking if the Health Department could not interfere. Yesterday morning .Green was still unconscious, but there seemed a slight impToyment in his condition*
