The first race in the first round of the competition for Mr. B. S. Cox’s trophies Avas rowed on the Waimata course on Saturday eA r ening betAveen: the crews stroked by W. 'McGuffie and T. Sheen. The crews got away Avell together, but McGuffie soon dreAA" away, land maintaining his lead to the finish. Avon comfortably. _ Tonight idle races will be continued, when the crews stroked by A. Kirk and F. Seymour, and those stroked by A. Pritchard and J. Stuart ivill meet in the second round. Tlie crews leave the shed at 5 p.m. sharp. Tomorrow night the first- round jvill be concluded, Avhen S. Ledger’s crew meets J. Webb’s, and .J. W. Nicolas’ crew Avill be pitted against R. Jones’. Tlie second round commences on Wednesdlay evening.
