OPENING OF SEASON
Tlie Aveather avas beautifully fine on Saturday for tlie opening of tlie 1908-9 season of the Whataupoko Lawn Tennis Club. The courts looked in fine order, but Avere someAvliat on the soft side for fast play. There Avas a large attendance of members and visitors, including al number from the Gisborne Club, and the lawns, graced by ladies in charming spring attire, and gentlemen in flannels, presented a pretty appearance. A
number of interesting sets Avere played, and croquet Avas also indulged in to some extent. During the afternoon a group phot-graph Avas taken by Mr. P. A. Eadie, of ihe Auckland “Graphic.” Delicious afternoon tea Avas served by the ladies, and the presence of the Federal Band, Avhicli discoursed several enjoyable selections, helped to further enliven proceedings.
