AN AMENDMENT BILL.

WELLINGTON, October 1. The Defence Amendment Bill, wnrcli has been introduced in the Legislative Council, is a short measure dealing chiefly with matters of discipline -under the principal Act. The power to dismiss a volunteer for disobedience or misconduct rests with tlie officer commanding tlio district, acting on the report of the officer commanding a corps. It is proposed in tlie Bill to place this power in the hands of the Council of Defence, acting on the recommendation of tlio officer commanding a district after due inquiry by him. The -power to disrate a noncommissioned officer is t 0 remain, as at present, with the officer commanding the district. Volunteer corps’ equipments are now admitted duty free, -and the Bill proposes tlie same concessions in regard to equipment for officers of tlie defence forces.
