A first-offending native from the Whatatutu district was convicted and fined 5s with costs £1 Is 6d, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. John Page, for a second conviction within six months, was fined 10s with 2s costs, of -18 hours imprisonment. ALLEGED OBSCENE LANGUAGE. Frank McNeill was -charged with having used obscene language on tlie night of the Ist hist, in a public place and within tho hearing of passers-by. On the application of counsel for the defence a remand was granted until Monday, bail being allowed, accused in £2O and one surety of £lO. ALLEGED THREATENING BEHAVIOR. Frank McNeill was further charged with having, on the same occasion, been guilty of threatening behavior, calculated to lead to a breach of tho peace. On tho application of Mr T. A. Coleman .for the accused a similar remand was’’grin ted in this case. UNRULY BEHAVIOR. John McNeill was charged with having, on September 12, behaved ill a violent and unruly manner in a railway carriage on the Gisborne-Rotorua railway. Accused did not appear, and Sergeant Hutton and Constable Doyle both produced signed statements from him stating that he would plead guilty to the offence, as he lived so far away from town. His Worship accepted the document as a plea and inflicted a penalty of £1 with 7s costs, or 4 day 7 s’ imprisonment. WILFUL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY Martin Williams and John McNeill wore further charged with having, on September 12, wilfully broken two windows in a -railway carriage, the property of the New Zealand Government.

Sergt. Hutton detailed the circumstances of the case and the accused A\ r illiams, having pleaded guilty, a fine of £1 each with costs 10s was imposed on each of the accused or 4 days’ imprisonment. Sergeant Hutton mentioned that one of the broken windows had been paid for by AVilliams, and His AVorship ordered that the accused McNeill should also pay 10s for the ilamago done to the window.
