0 UARTERLY MEETING

Tho quarterly sittings of tho AY ain--1)11 Licensing Committee was hold yesterday. As Mr. AY. A. Barton was absent from Gisborne, Mr. G. ,l)ar(,on occupied the chair, and there were also present Messrs Hepburn, Somervell and Tonibloson. Tho police reiKirts wero considered satisfactory. Improvements wore suggested 'in connection with the Waerenga-n-hika and AVaorenga-o-kuri Hotels, and tho report stated that there had been complaints of incivility in connection with the latter house. Tho quality of chaff sup* plied at tho To Uahui Hotel had also boon tho subject of complaint, but the licensee had explained that his chaff-cutter had boon out ot order at tho time. Heferonco was also made in tho report to a tank at tho Ormond Hotel. Mr. J. Wray Nolan assured tho Committee that tho tank referred to in tho police report on tho Ormond Hotel would bo erected without any delay, . Tho following businoss was then dealt with: — TRANSFERS. The Committee granted the following transfers: —Masonic Hotel, lrom Percival C. Elliott to Frederick Hall: To Buka Hotel, from J. H. Jamieson to Archibald G. Turnbull; Muriwai Hotel, from Executors of tho estate of AY. Currie to Margaret Currie (Mr Nolan). APPLICATION FOR LICENSE. Albert Pritchard was granted a conditional license for tho AYaerenga-a-hikn Hotel. Tho Chairman said tho Committee had recommended improvements at the hotel, but they had not boon carried out. Mr. Nolan said the.work would be undertaken at once. The Chairman said tho license would he held until October 2nd. The application for tho temporary transfer of tho license of the British Empire Hotel from Thomas AY. Hackett to Richard S. Chilton (Mr. Rocs) was adjourned, owing to a legal technicality, until September 14th.
