CHARITABLE AID BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. A meeting of the Charitable Aid Board was held in the Council Chambers last- night, when tliero were present : His AVorsliip tho Alayor (in tho chair), and Alessrs A. F. 'Matthews, J. Somervell, AV. Pottie, A. Sawyer, .AVliinray. Darton, E. 11. Alann, and Dr. AViiliams.

The custodian reported as follows: Number of inmates at last meeting 15, admitted since 1; total now in Home 16. Gifts of papers and clothes wero received during the mouth from Air. AV. L. Rees and Airs. Berry. A number of applications for relief were received and. granted. Tlio secretary of the Napier Hospital wrote applying for the payment of an account for £2O 14s for tile treatment of a man named John Yelds, who had been a resident of Gisborne, and who had been treated in that Hospital. It hail been stated by Avoids that ho was a member of the Druids Lodge, which, lie said, would pay tho amount.

Mr. Darton said that the man at ouo time was a member of tho Lodge but 'was not at tlio present time. Ho understood that Avoids was iin Gisborne at present.—Tho matter was held over pending enquiries. Tho A'isiting Committed reported as follows: “The Homo is tidy, clean, and comfortable. Inmates in a state of exhilaration at the prospect of having female companions.” " The report of the committee set up to go. into the question of providing accommodation for aged women, recommended that three additional rooms for the purpose bo added to tile caretaker’s lionse at the present Old Men’s Homo, also that the question of providing a Home for Incurables cannot be undertaken thisyear. Tho report of tlio committee .was adopted. Accounts amounting to £559 15s 4d were passed for payment, and tho meeting concluded,
