The “Times,” in a preliminary report on the British wheat crop, states that, tho recent weather has been favorable, but the prospect is the worst since 1904. WOOL. There was a very large attendance at the woo] sales. Everything was about 5 per cent, dearer, [Press Association.] WEL LINGTON, J uly 15. Beauchamp, chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand received the following cablegram from London : . “The wool sales have opened-: with strong competition and a- large attendance of buyers, There is an active demand by all branches of the trade. Prices are Jd to id per lb. higher. Coarse crossbreds (36’s to 10’sj, -average condition, 6-Jd to 7d, medium crossbreds (4-I’s to 46’s) 7-jd t0.73d. fine crossbreds (50’s) 9d to 93d, The market is strong for super-merinos.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following cablegram: “As compared with last sale’s closing rates prices are 5 per cent, higher for coarse^-and medium crossbreds and merinos. The attendance is large, and competition active,”
