ENTERTAINMENTS.

HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. Messrs Aleynell and Gunn’s Dramatic Company was greeted with a crowded house at His Alajcsty’s Theatre again last evening, when the romantic military drama, “Her Love Against the World” was again produced. Tin; play was enthusiastically received. Air. Harcotirt Beatty, as Eric Earl of Strathmore greatly pleased the audience with his presentation of the unjustly treated soldier of fortune. Aliss Madge Alclntosh won general favor in the charming role of the Princess Iris of Idalia, while Air. Rutland Beckett again appeared in the exacting part of the tyrant- Ulric, Prince of Ravcnsburg, and his work met with warm app oval. The other characters were also well filled. “A BEGGAR ON HORSEBACK.” To-night the company will appear in Air. E. Ferris’ costume play, “A Beggar on Horseback.” Air. Harcourt Beatty will appear ill the character of Alarley, Due de Tourney, and Aliss Aladgo AiClntosh as Lady Alary Dudley, while the other characters ill tho east have all good parts. The story opens with a rdot amongst Jacobite refugees in Spain, to establish Charles Stuart, and the first proceeding is to kidnap tho Duke of Staines, tho King’s Aliiu'ster, who has learned of the plot. Later, Alarley, Due de Tourney (the Beg.iri, who, having squandered his fortune, is reduced to street singing, appears, associated with two faithful and comical servitors. who follow him with dog-like fidelity, and his striking personal likeness to Staines gives the Jacobites an idea of persuading him to impersonate the Duke of Staines. Alarlev, however, has a fine sense of honor. and though falsely informed that Staines is an adherent to, the Stuart cause, declines the tempting honors, until appealed to l>.v Lady Alary Dudley. whose life he had saved, to go to England and assist her brother’s escauo. and lie then gives consent. Alarley, as Staines, is not even recognised by Lady Alary as an impostor, she not knowing of the kidnapping, hut he is recognised by Lady Rostrarline, a former love, who seeks renewal of old relations, and she, upon his roflisal. betrays him to Lord Petridge, the political rival of Staines. The Jacobites are surrounded at tho Staines’ residence, lmt after a wonderful feat of arms on the staircase the beggar enables them to escape. Staines, upon return to England, is -nested and condemned, the King refusing to believe in tho story of a counterfeit. Afarloy proclaims his love for Lady Alary, and his passion is returned, hut she is bound by an oath to her father to nuirrv Staines. Attempts aro made to save Staines, lmt these, are baulked by Pet ridge until the last net, when the King, receiving confirmation through therepentant Lady RoswarJino of Staines’ story, and Staines having died of internal disease, still proTahning his innocence, receives Alary in audience and Alarley turns up at the right moment. Petridge accordingly receive his deserts, and the curtain falls with the bestowal of tho Royal blessing on Alarley. who lias fortunately recovered jinrtion of his fortune, and the fair Lady Alarley.

To-morrow evening’s performance will be in the presence of the AngloBritish and Gisborne football teams, and a late train will run to all stations.
