According to the evklenco in a case heard by Dr. McArthur, S.M., this morning, the effect of the local Arbitration Court award reaches far beyond the district in which they' aro an force. Harold Daniel King, a carpenter, sued Barr and Shaw, a ‘Wellington firm of builders, for £1 7s Id, for travelling expenses, and the balance of wages due under an award of tho Arbitration Court. The plaintiff stated that lie had gone up to a job of building a bouse at Awanur on behelf of the defendants, and had been dismissed _ after being there a week. He bad disputed with the boss about the amount of the wages due. Evidenco was given by the secretary of the Carpenters’ Union that it was customary for the provisions of awards to extend even as far as Dunedin. When employers had their headquarters in Wellington, wages and travelling, expenses were paid to and from work according to the time occupied. His Worship gave judgment for the plaintiff for till©.full amount (£1 7s Id) and costs 6s.
