GRIEVANCES OF TRAMWAY MEN.
MEETING IN CHRISTCHURCH. THE UNION’S ULTIMATUM. > Press Association.) r CHRISTCHURCH, June 7. At a meeting of tramway employees this morning, the grievances against the Tramway Board were further considered. The executive committee recommended, in connection with tho apnointment of an outside person as on inspector, that an application be made to the Arbitration Court for the enforcement of clause 8 of the industrial agreement, which provides that in making an appointment the Board shall give preference' to employees lower in rank in the department concerned, provided all things are equal. It also recommended that a most emphatic protest bo entered against the Board’s arbitrary determination to lay claim to the surplus monies paid in by conductors wfiilst deducting all shortages from their pay, and unless the Board reconsiders the mattey the union will take the necessary steps to enforce the rules regarding the overcrowding of cars. The Board was given till June 19th to give its decision.
