ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS. LECTURE ON EGYPT, The anniversary celebrations of Holy Trinity Church were commenced in His Majesty’s Theatre last evening, when a tea, to which about 250 people sat down, was held. The tables were nicely decorated with (lowers and autumn leaves, and were well-laden with good things. The. following ladies presided over the eight tables: Alcsdnmes Barker and Blair, H. White and F. Barker, J. E. Foster -and A. W. Rees, DeLautour and T. A. Coleman, Mann and Shierlaw, W. D. Lysnar and Hooper, Field and Akroyd, and Aliss ’Williams. During the tea -Messrs Vita Bros.’ orchestra played selections. ' At eight o’clock Dr. Gerard Smith gave a lecture on “Ancient Egypt” in the theatre, and by the aid of some magnificently colored lantern slides was able to give the large audience a graphic account of the religion, social conditions, occupations, and civilisation of the great nation of the Nile that once influenced the whole of the civilised world. Previous to the lecture gongs were given by Airs. Trewem, Messrs T. Reynolds, Barlow, and Hamlin. Air. Poynton worked the lantern during the lecture. To-night tea will be on the tables at 5.30 p.m., and adults as well as children are invited. After the tea a limelight entertainment will be given, when a largo number of lantern views, including comic pictures, will be shown. There will also bo a Punch and Judy performance, and the children, trained by Airs. Wood, will give a programme of dances.
