DRINKING IN AUCKLAND. A RECENT CENSUS. (Press Association.) ' AUCKLAND, Juno 2. At a meeting of the /Auckland Li : censing Committee this afternoon, a letter was read by the Chairman from Mr. H. Leckie, giving the results of a census taken by the Young Men’s No-License League, respecting thirty, city hotels Avatolled on Saturday, April 25th, lietAA’een 8 and 10 p.m., showing that during the hours in question 10,230 persons AA-ere seen to leave the hotels, 692 of these heiug men, of whom 75 per cent were young men, 456 AA’omen and 86 children. The number,of persons set doiA'ii as seen “decidedly intoxicated” during this period Avas 204, the greater proportion being young men.
