FOOTBALL.

The Saturday competitions, commence this afternoon when Kiaiti-City meet West End on the Domain at 3 p.m. As both teams are reputed to he in good condition a fast and interesting game should result. TE KAR/AKA CLUB.

•At a largely attended meeting of theh ‘To Karaka Football Club held on Thursday evening, 'a letter was read from Whatatutu and Man gait u footbaflers asking (for co-operation in forming a separate union for the Mangatu, Whatatutu and. To Karaka districts. iMr. .P. J. Sefton (chairman) and (Messrs W. Lewis and C. Goode spoke very forcibly against the Te Karaka club joining such a union and a motion was carried unanimously “that the Te Karaka Football Club, while appreciating .the desire on the part of the Mangatu players t 0 foster Rqgby in our back-districts, is of the opinion that tho time is not yet ripe for the formation Of a 'separate union.”

;It was ultimately resolved to apply for re-affiliation to the Poverty IBay Rugby Union, and to make an effort to secure a series of matches with Gisborne Thursday teams and Motu and Mangatu teams.

ALHAMBRA CLUB.

A meeting of members of the Alhambra Club was held last night for the purpose of discussing tho formation of a football club, for play in the. Thursday competitions. It was decided to institute a football club in connection with the Club, to be called the Alhambra Football Club, and twenty players handed in their names as members.

The following officers were elected: President ancf vice-presidents, the corresponding officials of the Alhambra Club; secretary and treasurer, E. R. Miller; committee, R. Somervell. W. Wilkinson, J. Pasley, captain and vice-captain; selection committee, captain, vice-captain, and P. Stuckey; delegate to Union, D. E. Dustin. The captain and vice-captain will not be elected until Thursday next, and in the meantime R. Halden, D. E. Dustin, and Oman have been elected a temporary selection committee. The club colors decided upon were black and gold jerseys and white knickers. It was decided to arrange a practice match with the Gisborne club next Thursday. The formation of the Alhambra Football Club makes the fourth team f{>r participation in till© Thursday games, and the competition will therefore be commenced at an early date.
