Ou.r ' Wellington correspondent wires tllrat Mr. J. B. Reid of Christchurch has been appointed a director of the Bank of New Zealand to fill the vacancy caused by tho resignation of Mr Malet. Mr Reid is a son of the late Mr John Reid, of Elderslie, near Oainaru. The general opinion is that the appointment will materially strengthen the board, Mr Reid (having an extensive knowledge of commerce and pastoral and agricultural 'affairs in the South Island, more particularly in Canterbury and Otago,
