THE BLACKBALL STRIKE.
CONFERENCE IN CHRISTCHURCH PROSPECTIVE SETTLEMENT. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 7. A message received from Wellington to-day stated it is understood that- a conference will be held in Christchurch to-morrow between Messrs Pritchard and Webb (representing the Blackball miners) and representatives of the Blackball Company with a view to settling the troubles at the mine. Seen in regard to the above telegram, Mr. A. McKellar, agent for the Blackball Company, stated that oil Tuesday week last the secretary of the Union telegraphed asking if the company would receive a deputation from the Union. The company consented to do so, and it was decided to hold the conference on Tuesday last. Owing to the holiday festivities in connection with the Otira tunnel, however, the conference was postponed till to-morrow. 'Any arrangements made by the deputation will be submitted to a full meeting of the union.
