THE OTIRA TUNNEL
PROSPECTS FOR THE OPENING FUNCTION. ELABORATE PREPARATIONS. (Press Association.) •G REYDIOUTH, _ May 3. Preparations are proceeding on an elaborate scale at- Otira for the Otira tunnel opening function on Tuesday and tlio gathering promises to be tlio largest ever held on the Coast. The day on the Coast has been declared: a public holiday and schools throughout the district will be closed. Tho railway authorities will' make every arrangement for successfully dealing with the enormous passenger traffic that will bo offered, and given fino weather the function should be a great success. Sir J. G. Ward is expected to arrive in -Greymouth on Monday afternoon by the Tutaue-kai.
