CONDEMNED STOCK.
PROPOSED INSURANCE FUND. AUCKLAND BUTCHERS PROTECT THEMSELVES. Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 3. An important question was brought up at the meeting of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association by Dir. R. Salmon. The master butchers, he said, were inaugurating an insurance fund for condemned stock. ■With farmers this matter was one of great importance. Butchers frequently had beasts condemned, and tiie result was a direct loss to the farmer, who had to stand the responsibility. Under this insurance plan it was proposed to levy 6d per beast on farmers, and the fund would he drawn upon to compensate the seller whenever a beast was condemned. ilr. John Massey said lie thought it would he better to make the Government pay lull compensation. Dir. Gray urged that farmers and butchers should exercise better judgment in the sale and purchase of stock. Dir Salmon replied that it frequently happened that the best looking animals were condemned by Government officials for tuberculosis. It was agreed to leave the matter in abeyance until some further informatroiT of the proposed insurance fund came before the committee.
